Mark Kowal directs i-APS Technical Services and Program Development efforts. Mark is a disaster risk expert, environmental scientist and natural resources manager. A British national, he has a 1984 BSc in Environmental Sciences & Development Studies, and a 1989 MSc from Oxford University in Forestry and Landuse. His 25-year international development career spans 30 countries across Middle East, Latin America, Central and South-East Asia, where he has worked as a sector specialist in climate change impacts and adaptation; in land-use, food security and agroforestry; and in management of forests, watersheds and protected areas. Certified as a practitioner by the UK Association for Project Management, he is experienced in project cycle management, successfully delivering assignments in project design, capacity-development, technical implementation, and in monitoring and evaluation. Fluent in Spanish, his cross-cutting skills include management of effective training programmes, promotion of sustainable livelihoods, proposal authoring, strategic planning, research-into-use, and policy development. A skilled communicator, he can call upon a wide professional network of humanitarian, climate science and development contacts.
